2 - Daily Gratitude

No you don’t have to do it every day. But guess what, you’ll want to!

What is daily gratitude?

  • Daily gratitude is simply listing things that you are grateful for, daily. What things, you might ask. Well… Are you creative? Yes? Amazing. No? Even better. Are you grateful for delicious food? Amazing. Are you grateful for the cute little roofs on chimneys? Even better. The point is what you are grateful for doesn’t really matter; what matters is that you are grateful.

Why should I practice daily gratitude?

  • A quick google search will give you a million-and-one reasons to be grateful, but let me give you a quick summary. Gratitude makes you happier, healthier, more confident, more energetic, and it even makes you sleep better. But that’s not even the best part! The best part is that you can get all of these benefits even if you don’t really mean what you write. Now this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be genuinely grateful; it just means that on those days when you are feeling less than 100%, you can still practice daily gratitude and reap the benefits. Woah.

How do I start daily gratitude?

  • Write down the following sentence, “I am grateful for __” , and repeat. Have you ever wanted to get back at your elementary school English teacher for making you learn so many rules about writing? Well, this is your chance! Write a paragraph where every single sentence starts with the same four words. Hiyah! (Sorry I have to entertain myself somehow)

  • But what if you can’t think of anything to be grateful for?
    • Sometimes all I can come up with is that I’m grateful for my family, friends, and health. And so I just write that a few times. Other times I’m grateful for peacock feathers, contact solution, and christmas lights. Let your mind do it’s thing. Sometimes it’s fun to look back on what you were grateful for; you’d be surprised how well these lists reflect your mental state.

  • But what if you are too cool to write down what you are grateful for?
    • Let’s just say I have a few friends who wouldn’t deign to write out a list of gratitude. Fine. If you’re too scared to physically write about gratitude and get the full benefits, then start by saying a list while you’re showering, while you’re eating dinner, or even just in your head. The point is, start being grateful. Start being happier, healthier, more confident, more energetic, and more you.

2 – Make a list of things you are grateful for right now. Once you are doing this every day, move on to step 3.
