8 - Morning Routine
“If you win the morning, you win the day.” -Tim Ferriss
What is a morning routine?
- A morning routine is just whatever you do after you wake up every single day. It can include anything from brushing your teeth to making your bed, but it’s important that the order stays the same. This way you can start building a habit and your routine will progress much more easily, requiring less conscious effort as time goes on.
Why should I start a morning routine?
- I think there are two main reasons to start a morning routine. (1) It starts your day on the right note so you can bring that energy into the day and (2) it’s a good way to get started integrating routines/habits into your life. When habits become habitual (ha!) it takes so much less effort to practice them, giving you more energy and willpower to spend on other activities. Also, I find that my morning routine also just helps me get out of bed and start my day.
How do I start a morning routine?
- All you have to do is pick what activities you want to include and in what order. I highly recommend keeping it simple and choosing just 2 or 3 things to start. Actually doing the routine every day is more important than how many things you do. I would start with things you already do like brushing your teeth or maybe drinking a glass of water.
8 – Start your day with your newly-formed morning routine. And once you’re in the habit of doing your routine every morning, move on to step 9.
